Ntozakhe- One Goat Is Enough

wept, stopped and read and... #storiesofourown One Goat is Enough was recommended to me by a dear student. ¨I know you, I've heard you talk; I think you might enjoy this or hate this, have a read¨, she said. And I did, all... It takes one through a lot of emotions: anger, sadness, frustration, disappointment, pride.... All these emotions relating to the stories of our women; some I've heard of, some I've met and some I'm yet to meet... I live with some, was birthed by one and escaping from one I include this book through my life story as women issues of being belittled, taken for granted, not being recognised, working to be expected to give all of you, the servantry expectation and loss of women's names down generations being named what doesn't recognise you as own; what will reject you for their own. I refer to male power that is instilled in men from young such that there is a phrase of behaviour we all have to succumb to calle...

Life though...

This picture takes me back to my America's next model; with aspirations of becoming Africa's...STILL  ME: short, petite, shy yet outspoken, South African, smart, inquisitive...  HER: taller, darker, smart, slimmer, sensitive, Somali, shy yet verbal of her realities current and past... This year was also my first time coming across the procedure 'female genital mutilation'... and it wouldn't be the first; here goes: I remember her chocolate brown skin her tiny eyes beautiful cheekbones and pointed nose her gorgeous smile through tears as she told her story there in my lounge listening her soft voice my dad exclaiming in shock: it wasn't the first time hearing such I remember the smell of the food my mother was preparing for us mouth watering samp and beans coffee tea coming up for dad my senses ignited not in joiy but in disgust and shock shock at society of that time shock at the ';values' instilled in women we will cut ...

Our lives through...

It is is with great pleasure and power for me to introduce my girls to the art of storytelling. Stories personal to their contexts and beings;  who they are, who they have been, ought to be, want to be, need to be... Because in all fact, all those categories may be totally different viewed in or/and of isolation. Students should not be fed, simply, but exposed to food for the soul, both from their peers and those who have gone past and the living. Most of all students should make their own food; what best way than through stories. This half term my grade 9's are telling their stories through different media in topics such as: life through movies life through people we have and have not met life through music life through books life through poetry etc...
