A RAISIN IN THE SUN Lorraine Hansbery

A raisin in the sun; play by Lorraine  Hansberry inspiration

Harlem

What happens to a dream deferred?

      Does it dry up
like a raisin in the sun?
      Or fester like a sore—
      And then run?
Does it stink like rotten meat?
      Or crust and sugar over—
      like a syrupy sweet?

      Maybe it just sags
      like a heavy load.

      Or does it explode?

This was one of my first reads in undergrad for an English module called me a to analyse a reflect on self and society.

  •    What did you do when your dreams were deterred and you had to make a second plan and more?
  •    Who do you rely on to make your dream stay alive and not dry up?
  •    Are you true to your course?
  •    Is your course not infringing on another's?

And I did, all... It takes one through a lot of emotions: anger, sadness, frustration, disappointment, pride.... All these emotions relating to the stories of our women; some I've heard of, some I've met and some I'm yet to meet... I live with some, was birthed by one and escaping from one I include this book through my life story as women issues of being belittled, taken for granted, not being recognised, working to be expected to give all of you, the servantry expectation and loss of women's names down generations being named what doesn't recognise you as own; what will reject you for their own. I refer to male power that is instilled in men from young such that there is a phrase of behaviour we all have to succumb to calle...
